Feedback and Suggestions - Tell Us What You Think About Kennedy Library

Q

Why are people that are not students allowed to use the computers here?

I love the library, especially the fourth floor. However, whenever I come here, there are always at least 2 crazy adults on the computers, distracting everyone. This one guy constantly makes phone calls, loudly burps, and talks to himself basically the entire time, even though this is a quiet floor. Sometimes he even makes threats (the subject of these threats is unclear). There are at least 3 other crazy regulars as well, most of whom watch porn on the library computers or listen to loud music on headphones. They are taking away computers from students that might actually need them, and they are distracting to everyone around them. What I don't understand is how they are even logging into the computers and why non-students are allowed to use them. I wouldn't care if they were just using them quietly, but they are incredibly distracting and annoying. Like even if they were moved to a different (non quiet) floor, that would still be a slight improvement.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
While we welcome community members into our library, we expect them to use the library in a way that is respectful of everyone that is here.  Whenever you experience any kind of inappropriate behavior, whether from someone that is affiliated with Cal Poly or a community member, we want to hear about it.  The best way for us to address these issues is to know about them!  Don't hesitate to approach any library staff member with these concerns so that we can respond in a way that is appropriate and timely--you can always come to the Check Out Desk or Research Help Desk on the 1st floor or Library Administration, the Learning Commons Desk, or any librarian's office on the 2nd floor.  As you know, the library is a popular spot for people to spend their time but we want everyone who comes in our doors to feel comfortable and safe.
Thanks again for sharing your concerns with us.
